Showcase: Auer 6701 Fighter Pilot Oxygen Mask

Hi there!
I am back with a new Showcase item! It is again a very nice example of a rare Auer 10-6701 fighter oxygen mask with a black rubber body and green elastic straps. The photo was provided by Francois Saez who owns this example. Thank you Francois! If you have similar items in your collection (flight gear, aircraft parts, Luftwaffe photos, etc.) which you would like to show to other collectors, please contact me via LWCollector@gmail.com.

Showcase: 1067 Draeger Luftwaffe fighter pilot oxygen mask

Hi there!
I noticed that many of you would like to see more Showcase items (based on the outcome of the voting poll). Et voila, I am back with some photos of a very nice example of a Draeger 10-6701 fighter oxygen mask with a green rubber body and green elastic straps. The manufacturer's name "Draeger" is indicated on the clip. The mask's size "2" is moulded into the rubber body. A very nice and rare Luftwaffe fighter pilot oxygen mask. The photos were provided by Francois Saez who (at least at the time I got the photos) owned this example. Thank you Francois! If you have similar items in your collection (flight gear, aircraft parts, Luftwaffe photos, etc.) which you would like to show to other collectors, please contact me via LWCollector@gmail.com.

Showcase: Luftwaffe HM5 Pilot Oxygen Mask

Hi there!
Some time ago I have added a voting poll to the right hand side of this blog to ask you what content you prefer. It seems that many of you would like to see more showcase items. I therefore continue the SHOWCASE series today with an HM5 oxygen mask that I once owned. It is in excellent condition and according to the previous owner, it onced belonged to ace Peter-Paul Steindl of JG52 and JG26 (KIA 9 Jan 45). It carries his name on the rubber body. While you might say it is easy to put a name of an ace on it and sell it for more money, I trust the information as I have not only seen this mask but also the flight log and other personal documents of Peter-Paul Steindl that came together with this mask. Anyway, a rare and beautiful example of an early Luftwaffe oxygen mask.

If you have items in your collection that you would like to show others, please don't hesitate to contact me (LWCollector@gmail.com). I would be glad to show them here. Also, if you want me to show some other content I have neglected so far, please let me know.

Showcase: pilot's license of former oxygen mask owner

Hi there!
Only a small (I am currently abroad!) but interesting update today : the pilot's license of the former owner of the 6701 fighter oxygen mask presented in yesterday's "showcase" post. As you can see he was with JG104 at the end of the war. He claimed that they started converting to the Heinkel He 162 Volksjaeger but I couldn't find any proof for that. If you know anything about jG104 and conversion training with the He 162 please let us know by using the "Shoutbox" (=Miniforum) on the right. You can also contact me directly of course. There will be more showcase items soon (Me 109 aircraft parts, HM51 oxygen mask, etc.) and a big photo update tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Luftwaffe Fighter Pilot Oxygen Mask

Hi there!

This time - as promised - I am back not with Luftwaffe photos (a new huge photo update will follow on Friday) but with my first "Showcase" item. The intention of this new category is to show from time to time items from my (and other) personal collections. In order to make this category more interesting and exciting for everyone, I would like to invite anybody who has an item from his collection that he wants to show to contact me via

Of course full credit will be given and the item description by the owner will be published. I know, it takes some time to take photos and send them, but a lot of people will enjoy to see your item and to learn more from you. And remeber, if you have anything for trade against an other rare item, you might find the right people here by showing your item and telling to the others what you are looking for. Just try! After this introduction we go straight to the first "Showcase" item:

Luftwaffe Fighter Pilot Oxygen Mask 6701-2

The mask equipment number 6701 is moulded into the rubber body. -2 stands for the size of this particular mask (as far as I know where were -1, -2, -3). bwz, which is also moulded into the rubber body, is the manufactuer code and stands for Auer Gesellschaft AG which was one of the two major oxygen equipment supplier (Draeger was the second). This mask belonged to Oberfaehnrich Wolfgang Mehlert who was training with JG104 at the end of the war. He said that he was already converting to the Heinkel He 162. But his pilot's license gives no proof and I am not aware that JG104 had any He 162. Does anybody know more? If so, please use the shoutbox on the right hand side of the blog to let us know. This is a rare original Luftwaffe fighter mask in excellent condition. It is one of the best I have seen so far. Enjoy!
