Luftwaffe Fighter Pilot Oxygen Mask

Hi there!

This time - as promised - I am back not with Luftwaffe photos (a new huge photo update will follow on Friday) but with my first "Showcase" item. The intention of this new category is to show from time to time items from my (and other) personal collections. In order to make this category more interesting and exciting for everyone, I would like to invite anybody who has an item from his collection that he wants to show to contact me via

Of course full credit will be given and the item description by the owner will be published. I know, it takes some time to take photos and send them, but a lot of people will enjoy to see your item and to learn more from you. And remeber, if you have anything for trade against an other rare item, you might find the right people here by showing your item and telling to the others what you are looking for. Just try! After this introduction we go straight to the first "Showcase" item:

Luftwaffe Fighter Pilot Oxygen Mask 6701-2

The mask equipment number 6701 is moulded into the rubber body. -2 stands for the size of this particular mask (as far as I know where were -1, -2, -3). bwz, which is also moulded into the rubber body, is the manufactuer code and stands for Auer Gesellschaft AG which was one of the two major oxygen equipment supplier (Draeger was the second). This mask belonged to Oberfaehnrich Wolfgang Mehlert who was training with JG104 at the end of the war. He said that he was already converting to the Heinkel He 162. But his pilot's license gives no proof and I am not aware that JG104 had any He 162. Does anybody know more? If so, please use the shoutbox on the right hand side of the blog to let us know. This is a rare original Luftwaffe fighter mask in excellent condition. It is one of the best I have seen so far. Enjoy!
